Workshop overview

Description

This unique workshop invites participants to bring their own creative ideas for creating moulded objects in glass. Whether you are an industrial designer, object admirer, craft entrepreneur or simply have a love for creativity and making, this course run over two days is a unique offering.

Students are encouraged to bring their own objects to mould be that something 3d printed, or found objects. Additionally, the course will provide basic materials such as clay, wax, plaster, timber and timber. The outcomes? Stunning blow-moulded glass objects and sand-cast glass forms!

Participants will have the opportunity to design and create their own moulds, work alongside a skilled gaffer during glassblowing, and actively contribute to the sand-casting process.

Whether you’re a beginner or looking to expand your creative repertoire, this workshop offers a fun, collaborative, and hands-on experience.

2025 Dates:

  • The workshop runs over 2 sessions, each 7.5 hours long, allowing ample time for mould-making, glassblowing, and sand-casting.

  • 1️⃣ February 10 – March 2

  • 2️⃣ June 15 – July 6 (subject to change)

  • 3️⃣ September 14 – October 5 (subject to change)

  • Fee: $1200 per person (includes all tools, materials, and glass)

  • Payment is due 14 days prior to the workshop start date

Workshop Provisions

🛡 Safety Equipment provided:

  • Protective Spectacles: Clear lenses for all studio activities.

  • Heat-Resistant Gloves: For handling hot tools and moulds.

  • PPE: Aprons and other heat-resistant gear.

🛠 Tools & Materials Provided

  • Moulding Materials: Clay, wax, plaster, timber, chicken wire, and other sculptural elements.

  • Glass Batch: For both blow-moulding and sand-casting processes.

  • Tools for Mould-Making: Sculpting tools, carving instruments, and shaping aids.

🔮 Studio Access

  • Use of the hot glass studio for blow-moulding with a gaffer.

  • Access to the sand-casting studio for pouring molten glass.

  • Coldworking tools for finishing and refining your pieces.

📚 Learning Materials

  • Morning Slide Show: These initial class briefings will run over the lessons for the day, provide illustrative examples of works created in that fashion and breakdown their approach. It will also outline common mistakes or difficulties when designing moulds or sandcasting.

  • Workshop Handouts: Step-by-step guides on mould-making and casting
    techniques, with clear illustrations.

Outcomes:

  • Create two unique moulds for blow-moulding.

  • Collaboratively produce sand-cast forms.

  • Take home 4–6 completed glass pieces, ready for display or gifting.
