The workshop runs over 4 days (1 day in the glassblowing workshop, 3 days in the neon bending workshop)
$1785 fee per person (includes all tools, materials, and glass). Flexible payment plans are available upon request.
Spaces are limited to 6 participants per session.
🎓Level: Open to creatives with sculptural or material knowledge and beginner makers looking to
push their skills to the next level.
Course program:
🌟 Day 1 - Glassblowing Workshop:
Begin with a full day in the hot shop sculpting and colouring glass forms that will become the foundation of your illuminated sculptures. This part of the course will be held by Billy Crellin at Studio Dokola in West Footscray.
💡 Days 2-4 – Neon Workshop:
Transition into the neon studio to bring your creations to life! Learn plasma and single-electrode techniques, exploring how light interacts with shape and color to produce glowing, kinetic masterpieces. You will be guided by master bender Stephen Cole at Cole’s Neon Workshop in Bayswater.
What you'll learn:
Glassblowing & Sculptural Techniques: Begin by designing or experimenting, with
the aid and instruction of trained glassblowers. Working with molten glass, focusing
on shaping and coloring techniques to create dynamic forms.
Neon Bending & Plasma Illumination: Dive into neon bending with a focus on
single-electrode (plasma) techniques, transforming your glass sculptures into
illuminated masterpieces.
Workshop Processes: Get an introduction to the tools, layouts, and workflows of
both the glassblowing and neon bending studios.
Outcomes:
Two or more glowing, sculptural works of art.
A comprehension of glassblowing and neon bending techniques.
A format for continuing to explore the interplay of glass and light in your creative practice.
