Waldglas Series
The Waldglas series draws from early forest glasstraditions—where material scarcity, local resources, and furnace conditionsshaped both colour and form. Historically, “forest glass” carried itsdistinctive green tones from iron-rich sands and wood-fired ash. In thisseries, that lineage is revisited and reinterpreted through a contemporarylens.
Each piece is blown in deeply saturated greens that shiftfrom translucent olive to near-black density, recalling the depth andvariability of historical glass. Rather than aiming for clarity or refinement, the work embraces thickness, distortion, and tonal variation—qualities thatspeak to glass as a material in flux rather than a perfected surface.
Forms are simple and grounded, allowing the colour andweight of the material to take precedence. Subtle inconsistencies—ripples, density shifts, and optical warping—become active elements, echoing theunpredictability of early glassmaking processes.
Waldglas reflects an ongoing interest in glass as both ahistorical artefact and a living material. It considers how a substance oncedeveloped to imitate precious stones has, over time, established its ownlanguage—only to now sit again at the edge of transformation.
